School Rumble Anime Review

School Rumble Anime Review

School Rumble, one of the those slice of life comedies that stands out when I think about the genre. It took my a few years to finish, each time I would start I would get side tracked and end up at Lucky Star or something else, but finally I finished it last year. I been thinking about starting the manga, but I think you could compare it to Inuyasha; we all think about reading it, we may start, but we never finish. School Rumble is a comedy, even when the complicated love-triangle problems start there is still comedy. Even when you feel for a character that is heartbroken a punch line is around the corner.

The story is simple, this girl Tenma likes Karasuma, but he is indiiferent towards her; this other guy, Kenji, likes Tenma, but she is oblivious about his love. Kenji and Tenma run in circles throughout the anime trying to confess their love for their respected crush. The story is episodic for the most part, some episodes have two parts, and they do require knowledge of the various love interest, but fairly stand alone.

The art isn't shojo'y. I really don't know how to describe it. The author does draw himself into his work, he looks just like Kenji, which makes be wonder if the story parrallels his own highschool love life.

After I finished the anime I went on line to see what other people thought of it. There was this one guy that plain out did not lik it! He wrote, like, a three thousand word review just slamming the anime and manga. Honestly I don't see what he talking about, School Rumble ranks in my top ten anime comedies and was really enjoyable to watch. And the length inwhich he wrote! Hollly Crap! My reviews hover around three hundred to about six hundred words, maybe a thousand if it's a great review. I write these reviews to help others decide whether or not they want to watch/read the series. That's one of the reasons I don't give away endings and other spoilers. But that review, no more like a slam, was just eww. Why write about something just to trash it? I may to that once in a blue moon, but it will never be really long.

But back to School Rumble.
While watching, because of the diverse characrters, you really can't help but to connect to atleast one character. One of the many threads on School Rumble forums is "Which Character Are You?", personally I think of my self as both Harima Kenji and Imadori, you understand if you've seen the show.

The one thing that I can say against the Anime is that it didn't finish the story. The same as with so many great anime. Like, the story didn't just end there was some closure, but knowing that it continued is what got me. But as a wise man once said, "It's not the end of an Anime, but the time you spent watching it, that matters.".

Harima's the best!

Now some funny clips.
